Get Certified

Certification is a process that verifies an individual’s qualifications for a specific field of professional practice.

The Music Teachers National Association Professional Certification Program is designed for music teachers who instruct students of any age in private or group settings. The program is founded on five standards that define the knowledge and skills expected of a competent music teacher.

Upon meeting these standards, applicants are awarded the MTNA Professional Certification and the designation Nationally Certified Teacher of Music (NCTM).

To maintain this credential, NCTMs must continue to meet the program’s standards through a structured renewal process.

For more information, visit the MTNA website.

The Indiana Music Teachers Association offers guided support through our Certification Chair and helps cover the application expense. See the IMTA Board of Directors page for the current chair’s contact info.
